Chicken, beef and pork products recalled

LQNN, Inc., is recalling approximately 213,192 pounds of chicken, beef and pork products that were produced without the benefit of inspection and misbranded because of the unauthorized use of a USDA mark of inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The products which were moved and sold in commerce, included the unapproved use of another facility’s mark of inspection, which has been identified as Establishment number 18995. LQNN, Inc., operating as Lee’s Sandwiches, has been processing products from federally-inspected establishments and repackaging them without the benefit of inspection. Products produced without inspection present potential of increased human health risk.

The various poultry, beef and pork items [View Labels] were produced between May 18, 2014 and May 18, 2015.

The following products are subject to recall and were sent to various restaurant locations in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas to be cooked and served to consumers. The following products may contain “Est. 11041” or “P-11041” inside the USDA mark of inspection:

• 54,509 -lb. of “Banh Bao Pork & Egg Steamed Bun.”
• 15,147 -lb. of “Banh Bao Trung Cut Pork & Quail Egg Steamed Bun Vietnamese Style.”
• 55,114 -lb. of “PORK PATE CHAUD (LARGE).”
• 6,016.5-lb. of “PORK PATE CHAUD (SMALL).”
• 50,036-lb. of “CHICKEN PATE CHAUD (LARGE).”
• 6,184.5-lb of “CHICKEN PATE CHAUD (SMALL).”

The following products are subject to recall and were sent to the aforementioned restaurant locations in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas to be prepared and served to consumers. The following products may contain “Est. 11041” or “P-11041” inside the USDA mark of inspection:

• 22,812-lb. of “SLICED OIL BROWNED TURKEY PREMIUM BREAST MEAT FULLY COOKED.”

• 2,453.5-lb. of “SLICED SALAMI MEAT with wine FULLY COOKED.”

The following products are subject to recall and were sent to various retail locations in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas for retail distribution to consumers. The following products may contain “Est. 18995” inside the USDA mark of inspection:

• 22.25-lb. of 4-oz. plastic containers of “FRUIT BEEF JERKY (Kho Bo).”

• 352-lb. of 4-oz. plastic containers of “B.B.Q.  BEEF JERKY (Kho Bo).”
• 354-lb. of 4-oz. plastic containers of “Curry BEEF JERKY (Kho Bo).”                    

The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel during a surveillance review. During this review, FSIS personnel observed and detained non-federally inspected products which were produced at the warehouse distributorship and had applied USDA marks of inspection without authorization.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.  

Various pork products recalled due to improper processing

B & R Meat Processing, a Winslow, Ark. establishment, is recalling approximately 2,129 pounds of pork products due to a possible processing deviation that may have led to staphylococcal enterotoxin contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The cured and uncured pork items were produced on various dates between August 7, 2014 and April 1, 2015. The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels]

• 1-lb cryovac packages of “B&R MEAT PROCESSING CURED BACON PORK”

• 1 to 2-lb cryovac packages of “B&R MEAT PROCESSING UNCURED SMOKED PORK HAM.”

• 1 to 2-lb cryovac packages of “B&R MEAT PROCESSING UNCURED SMOKED PORK AR BACON.”

The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “Est. 46910” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items produced were shipped to local stores and farmer’s markets in Arkansas.

The problem was discovered when an FSIS inspector was conducting a Food Safety Assessment and observed a processing deviation.  

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Various Nijiya Market Beef Products Recalled

Jinon Corporation, dba Nijiya Market, a Torrance, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 359 pounds of frozen boneless beef products produced in Japan that were not presented at the U.S. point of entry for inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. Without the benefit of full inspection, a possibility of adverse health consequences exists.

• Packages of various sizes containing cuts of Tender Loin, Chuck Roll, Ribeye, Strip Loin, Brisket, Chuck Short Ribs, Inside, Outside, Short Ribs, Top Sirloin Butt, Clod, Knuckle, Short Plate and Shank all sold with a Nijiya Market label

These items were produced in Japan on August 6, 2014 and imported in September of 2014.  The importer cut, repackaged and sold the products at a retail store in Torrance, California.

The problem was discovered when FSIS import staff reviewed records and discovered that the importer did not present the products for USDA inspection at the U.S. point of entry.

Beef Products Recalled Due To Improper Cooking Temperature

Galant Food Company, a San Leandro, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 410 pounds of beef products because the meat filling used in the products did not meet its cooking critical limit, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. 

The products subject to the recall include: [View Labels (PDF Only)]

• 4.5-oz. Galina’s Original Beef and Cheese Piroshki, 12 or 24 per case, with case codes 092214, 092314 and 092414
• 5-oz. Paramount Beef Piroshki, 25 per case, with case codes 092314 

The products, which bear the establishment number “EST.9014,” were produced Sept. 22 through 24, 2014 and then shipped to a retailer in the San Francisco Bay area and a distributor in Northern California. 

The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel who were at the establishment reviewing records. 

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse illnesses due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Raw Goat Milk Mild Cheddar Cheese recalled

SW Wisc Dairy Goat Products Coop of Mt Sterling, Wisc is recalling Raw Milk Mild Cheddar Cheese Lot Code 103-114 because it may be contaminated with Shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC) O111:H8 bacteria. 

This is one of the 6 STEC strains that have been deemed to be of serious health concern as it can cause diarrheal illness, often with bloody stools, and may lead to more severe complications like Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals and can lead to severe kidney damage and even death.

This product was distributed in the Midwest and Southwest regions of the US. This product was sent through distributorship in Wisconsin and Georgia. From these two states this product was then sent to retail stores in the Midwest and Southwest.

This product was packed as an 8oz cryovac retail size piece with the code 103-114 on a sticker attached to the side of the cheese. This product is all white in appearance and has a front and back separate label. The back label is a black and white nutrition and ingredient label and the front label is a yellow and blue colored label with the Mt Sterling Coop Creamery brand name. "No illnesses have been reported to date."

The recall was initiated after a case of two five pound loafs in the original packaging was collected on 7-8—14 from an offsite warehouse. The product sample tested positive for Shiga toxin 1and was contaminated with E. coli O111:H8.

Egg Products Recalled Due to Falsified Lab Tests for Salmonella

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert because Nutriom LLC, a Lacey, Wash. establishment, declined to expand its Feb. 15, 2014 recall to include an additional 118,541 pounds of processed egg products for which there is reason to conclude that they are unfit for human consumption.

The request for expansion was based on evidence collected during an ongoing investigation conducted by FSIS at this establishment. The company has refused to recall the additional processed egg products. As a consequence, FSIS intends to take appropriate action to remove the products from commerce.

FSIS issued the original recall because the company allegedly recorded false laboratory results. The company allegedly produced negative laboratory results for Salmonella when the results were actually positive, or reported that sampling had occurred when, in fact, no microbial testing was performed. FSIS requested the company to include additional products, but it declined. Because the product was not produced in accordance with FSIS requirements, it is unfit for human consumption

These products were shipped nationwide and to U.S. military installations in the United States and abroad, and to Mexico.
