Canada: Alfalfa Sprouts recalled Due to Salmonella

Aquafuchsia Foods Inc. is recalling Aquafuchsia brand alfalfa sprout product from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below.

The following product has been sold in Quebec.

Check to see if you have recalled product in your home. Recalled product should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was purchased.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

Update:Alfalfa Sprout Contaminated with Salmonella in Canada

The manufacturer, Sunsprout Natural Foods, Brantford, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall. The two brand names of alfalfa sprouts are Sunsprout and Sprouts Alive.

The Sunsprout is in a 140 gram package with the bar code number 0 57521 13501 7 with a best buy date code June 13.  Sprouts Alive is in a 140 gram package with the bar code number  0 69022 00030 6 with a best buy date code June 13.  

These sprouts may be found nationally, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario
