Quincy Street, Inc., a Holland, Mich. establishment, is recalling approximately 49,308 pounds of pork sausage products that may be contaminated with foreign materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “EST. 18963” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to institutions nationwide.

The problem was discovered by the establishment during routine verification activities.

Beef Products recalled Due To E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination

Skyline Provisions, Inc., a Harvey, Ill., establishment, is recalling 1,029 pounds of beef products contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Produced between April 15-25, 2015, the following products are subject to recall:

• 17 ½ boxes of Aurora Packers Intact Beef Round Flats

On April 15, 2015, Skyline sold the product under their D&S label (Establishment number: 19300), ground and tested one and a half cases of the product. On April 21, 2015, these products were found positive for E. coli O157:H7. The remaining intact, products were sold to Jack & Pat's Old Fashioned Market in Chicago Ridge, Ill., where the product was ground and sold in various amounts of ground chuck patties, ground chuck, ground round, sirloin patties and porter house patties.

FSIS and the company are concerned that some product may have been sold and stored in consumers' freezers.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps 2–8 days (3–4 days, on average) after exposure the organism. While most people recover within a week, some develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). This condition can occur among persons of any age but is most common in children under 5-years old and older adults. It is marked by easy bruising, pallor, and decreased urine output. Persons who experience these symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

FSIS advises all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen, and only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160 °F. The only way to confirm that ground beef is cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria is to use a food thermometer that measures internal temperature, http://1.usa.gov/1cDxcDQ.

Veal cut in quarters recalled

Leader Slaughterhouse, LLC, an Imler, Penn., establishment, is recalling approximately 1,800 pounds of veal carcasses that were produced without the full benefit of federal inspection and outside inspection hours, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The carcasses were produced on April 10, 2015. The following product is subject to recall:

• 6 individual 300 pound veal carcasses, cut into quarters.

The product subject to recall does not bear the USDA mark of inspection. This product was picked up at the establishment’s location in Imler, Penn., and taken by customers to Pennsylvania and New York.

The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel during in-plant verification activities.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of illness due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.  

Great Britain: Fennel Seeds that contained Rhodamine B was recalled

Dealicious Mealz UK Ltd has recalled the above product from retail customers because Rhodamine B has been detected. Rhodamine B is not a permitted food additive (food colour), which may pose a risk to health. The FSA has issued a Product Recall Information Notice.

The product being recalled from retail customers is:

• ‘Best before’ end: May 2015

Australia Schweppes Indian Tonic Water Recalled

Schweppes Indian Tonic Water 300ml x 4 pack glass bottles contained within a printed cardboard sleeve is being recalled It is marked BEST BEFORE 21 OCT 15 and 22 OCT 15 – Factory code 3212 The outer sleeve is correctly labelled as ‘Tonic Water’. Only some individual bottles are incorrectly labelled as ‘Soda Water’ and are therefore missing the quinine declaration.

Consumers who are sensitive to quinine may have a reaction if they consume this product.

The product was sold in Australian Capital Territory,New South Wales,Queensland by Schweppes Australia P/L Traders who sold this product were Coles, Woolworths, IGA and other independent retail stores

Soybean Sprouts and Mung Bean Sprouts Recalled Due to Listeria Contamination

Kkot Saem Sprouts, Inc. of Spanaway, Washington is voluntarily recalling Soybean Sprouts and Mung Bean Sprouts sold under brand names Kkot Saem, Winter Blossom Bean Sprouts, and Winter Blossom because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  

Listeria monocytogenes which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Soybean Sprouts and Mung Bean Sprouts were distributed at H-Mart in Washington and Oregon, and G-Mart in Oregon and the last date of distribution was on December 16, 2014. The mung Bean sprouts product has a 5-day shelf life from the packing date and soybean sprouts product has a shelf life of up to two weeks from the packing date.

This recall was the result of the sample collected and analyzed by the Food and Drug Administration and it is revealed that the finished mung bean sprouts contained Listeria monocytogenes.

nSpired Natural Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain retail lots of Arrowhead Mills® Peanut Butters, MaraNatha® Almond Butters and Peanut Butters and Whole Foods 365, Trader Joes, Krogers label nut butters packaged in glass and plastic jars because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
