Several Brands of products containing corn recalled

Denton Texas, – The Morrison Milling Company has initiated a voluntary recall of certain corn products due to the possible presence of fragments of flexible metal mesh caused by a faulty screen at our production facility which could present a choking hazard. The problem was detected by our quality department during routine production line checks.

There have been no consumer complaints, illnesses or injuries reported to date.

Affected products are distributed through retail outlets throughout the Southwestern United States. The specific varieties of corn products listed below are potentially affected and include all code dates and best buy dates for products purchased before December 06, 2015.

All Morrison Milling production lines have comprehensive metal control programs that include magnets and metal detection devices. Some pieces of the fine wire may have been too small to be detected and could have found their way into the finished product. While no metal has been found in finished product, as a precaution, we initiated this voluntary recall.

Campbell Soup recalls SpaghettiOs due to choking hazard

CAMDEN, NJ, November 12, 2015 – Campbell Soup Company is voluntarily recalling 14.2 ounce cans of SpaghettiOs Original due to a potential choking hazard posed by pieces of red plastic found in a small number of cans. This plastic material is from parts of the can lining which may peel off.

The affected 14.2 ounce SpaghettiOs Original product has a date of February 22, 2017 which is stamped on the base of the can, and a UPC code of 51000 22432 printed under the bar code.

The issue was identified after the company received consumer complaints.

This recall affects 355,000 cans and is limited to the United States.

This product should not be eaten. People who have bought the affected product should return it to the store where it was purchased for an exchange or full refund. Kraft Singles American and White American recalled

The Kraft Heinz Company is voluntarily recalling select code dates and manufacturing codes of Kraft Singles individually-wrapped slices due to the possibility that a thin strip of the individual packaging film may remain adhered to the slice after the wrapper has been removed. If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could potentially cause a choking hazard.

The recall applies to 3-lb. and 4-lb. sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese product with a Best When Used By Date of 29 DEC 15 through 04 JAN 16, followed by the Manufacturing Code S54 or S55.

The S54 and S55 codes refer to the two production lines on which the impacted product was made. The Best When Used By Date and Manufacturing Code are stamped on both the larger 3-lb. and 4-lb. boxes and the enclosed individual 1-lb. packages.

No other sizes, varieties or code dates are included in this recall. And no products with manufacturing codes other than "S54" and "S55" after the code date are included in this recall.

There have been 10 consumer complaints to date about the packaging, including three reports of consumers choking.

Approximately 36,000 cases of the recalled product were shipped by Kraft Heinz to retailers in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman. Kraft Heinz did not ship this product to Canada or anywhere other than the U.S., Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman.

We deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed. Consumers who purchased this product should not eat it. They should return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund. Great Britain: Jelly Mini-cups Recalled

New Choice brand 'Mini Fruity Gels' (jelly mini-cups) - potential choking hazard.During a routine inspection of a Vietnamese supermarket in the London area, an environmental health officer discovered 'New Choice' brand 'Mini Fruity Gels' on sale.

Jelly mini-cups are not permitted to contain a number of additives, including 'alginic acid' , 'agar' , 'Carrageenan' and 'processed euchema seaweed' as they may pose a choking hazard. As these additives are included in this product they are in breach of the legislation.

Despite investigations by the enforcement authorities, it has not been possible to obtain full distribution details or product traceability records for these products.

This Recall includes all dates and batch codes. If you have purchased any products with the above packaging information, please do not eat them.

The use in jelly mini-cups of certain additives specified in Annex II of Regulation 1333/2008 is prohibited, jelly mini-cups are defined as 'confectionery of a firm consistence, contained in semi-rigid mini-cups or mini-capsules, intended to be ingested in a single bite by exerting pressure on the mini-cup or mini-capsule to project the confectionery into the mouth'.

In addition, the use of konjac in all jelly confectionery, including jelly mini-cups, and the sale of such confectionery, is prohibited under Regulation 1333/2008. These provisions are enforced by way of The Food Additives, Flavourings, Enzymes and Extraction Solvents (England) Regulations 2013.

BJ's Recalls Asiago Risotto Bites Due to Choking Hazard

BJ’s Wholesale Club has been notified by Stuffed Foods LLC that it is voluntarily recalling its Asiago Risotto Bites due to a potential choking hazard. To date, no illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection to this recall. Stuffed Foods issued this voluntary recall after they were notified by Biery Cheese, their Swiss cheese supplier, that the Swiss cheese they purchased may contain small pieces of plastic.

Asiago Risotto Bites that have a best by date of: November 7, 2014, November 13, 2014, November 14, 2014, November 20, 2014, and November 22, 2014 are affected by this recall.

If you purchased any of the recalled products, please discontinue use and discard the remaining Asiago Risotto Bites.  Please do not return the product to BJ’s.

Hot Dogs Can Kill

Every year young children die from choking on hot dogs. They're the perfect size to block a three year old child's throat. Many people don’t think of slicing the hot dog up before giving it to a small child. If a hot dog was a toy there would be a warning label.

Hot dogs can be dangerous for adults. Sodium nitrite is a preservative used in hot dogs  It is used to slow the development of botulism, give a spicy flavor and turn the meat pink. When ingested, sodium nitrate breaks down to form sodium nitrite in the body, which has the antimicrobial properties to fight botulism. So, it is only when sodium nitrate becomes sodium nitrite that it becomes a functional preservative  When ingested, sodium nitrate breaks down to form sodium nitrite in the body, which has the antimicrobial properties to fight botulism. Both nitrate and nitrite, however, form nitrosamines, a known carcinogen, when mixed with protein-rich foods like meats. Nitrosamines create cell damage and lead to colorectal cancer.

Nitrites and nitrates are also linked to Bacon, Slim Jims, most processed meat and canned hams. Research showing that eating 3.5 ounces of processed meat every day (one large hot dog a day) increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 36 percent when compared to someone who eats no processed meat. Nitrites and nitrates are also linked to lung cancer, kidney cancer, stroke, coronary heart disease and diabetes mellitus.

There a safe alternatives.   Health food stores have nitrate free hot dogs or you can get vegetarian hot dogs. By the time you put on some sauerkraut and mustard you can't tell the difference.
