“BUFFALO JERKY BRAND BEEF JERKY RECALLED

Alewel’s Country Meats, a Warrensburg, Mo. establishment, is recalling approximately 134 pounds of beef products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The product was produced using the wrong inspection legend.

The Buffalo Jerky items have a “Use By” date of “06-12-15,” “05-11-15,” or “04-02-15”, with production dates of “12-11-14,” “11-11-14,” and “10-02-14.” The following products are subject to recall: [View Label]

• 12-lbs. vacuum-sealed packages containing 1 oz. of “BUFFALO JERKY.”
• 26-lbs. vacuum-sealed packages containing 2 oz. of “BUFFALO JERKY.”
• 96-lbs. vacuum-sealed packages containing 4 oz. “BUFFALO JERKY.”

The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “EST. 5766” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items produced were shipped to retail locations in Missouri.                                 

The problem was discovered during verification activities by FSIS personnel.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Oscar's Beef Jerky Recalled

Oscar’s Hickory House Inc., a Warrensburg, N.Y. establishment, is recalling approximately 32 pounds of beef jerky product due to a processing deviation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following product is subject to recall: 4-oz and 8 oz. cryovac packages of “Oscar’s Adirondack Mountain Smokehouse Beef Jerky” with code 420 on the label

The product, which bears the establishment number “EST. 4257” inside the USDA mark of inspection, was produced on December 26, 2014 and sold by one retailer in New York. The product was also sold via the internet.

The problem was discovered by FSIS inspectors during a food safety assessment; it was found that the product is susceptible to environmental pathogens and therefore potentially harmful if consumed.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the product. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.  

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. Big Bark All Natural Beef Jerky Treats for Dogs Recalled Due to Salmonella

Grill-Phoria LLC of Loveland, Colorado is recalling approximately 200, 3.5 oz bags of Big Bark All Natural Beef Jerky Treats for Dogs because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These bags were distributed and manufactured between September 20, 2014 through January 2, 2015, and do not have lot codes.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products. Most people recover from salmonellosis in four to seven days without treatment, but some groups are at higher risk of developing more severe symptoms. These high-risk groups are: children under 5 years of age, the elderly, pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

Big Bark All Natural Beef Jerky Treats for Dogswas distributed in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Oklahoma through Nor-Sky Pet Supply LLC through independent pet stores. The product is under the Big Bark label and is in a standup pouch that is 3.5 oz in weight labeled as All Natural Beef Jerky Treat. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall is a result of a routine sampling program by the Colorado Department of Agriculture which revealed that the finished tested positive for Salmonella. Grill-Phoria has ceased the production and distribution of the product as the company continues their investigation as to what caused the problem.

Consumers who have purchased Big Bark All Natural Beef Jerky Treats for Dogs (3.5 oz Bag) are urged to return the bag to the store that you purchased it from and get a full refund. Delicious Beef Jerky, LLC, an Albuquerque, N.M. establishment, is recalling 8 pounds of beef jerky products because they were marked and shipped without the benefit of inspection when they were produced under a retail exemption, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

• 2.5 once and 5 ounce plastic bags of DELICIOUS BEEF JERKY Lemon Pepper Seasoned Beef Jerky with a use-by date of 0911155

The products, which contain the establishment number “EST. 34408” inside the USDA Mark of Inspection, were sold in small retail stores in the Albuquerque,   N.M. area.  All 2.5 once and 5 ounce plastic bags with a use-by date of 9-11-15 are being recalled.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions or illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

Canada: Beef Jerky Recalled

Crown Star Food Distributors Ltd. and Wallace & Carey Ltd., are recalling various Tillamook Country Smoker brand beef jerky products from the marketplace because they are believed to pose a risk. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below.

The recall was initiated by Tillamook Country Smoker, Bay City, OR, USA. The manufacturer used some of the beef products which were recalled by Rancho Feeding Corporation, Petalama, California, USA on February 8, 2014 "because it processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection". Therefore, these products are considered unsound, unwholesome or otherwise unfit for human consumption.
