Native Catch Salmon Bacon recalled due to Botulism risk

The Swinomish Fish Company is initiating a voluntary recall of packages of both Traditional and Peppered flavors of NATIVE CATCH SALMON BACON with a "BEST BY" date of 1/23/16 and 3/16/16 distributed in the Western Washington and Florida areas. The Native Catch Salmon Bacon has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned to not use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.
Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension and constipation may also be common symptoms. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.
No other Native Catch products are involved in this recall. The potential for contamination was noted after a routine Washington State Department of Agriculture inspection discovered that the product had potentially been under processed.
The Native Catch Salmon Bacon products subject to this recall are:
  • Peppered flavor with UPC: 7 83583 27965 9, packaged in 8 oz. and 14 oz. clear vacuum bag with Best By codes 1/23/16 and 3/16/16.
  • Traditional flavor with UPC: 7 51778 15900 0, packaged in 8 oz. and 14 oz. clear vacuum bags with BEST BY codes 1/23/16 and 3/16/16.
Recalled products were shipped to locations in the states of Washington and Florida between the dates of August 10, 2015 through December 11, 2015 This recall is being made with the knowledge of the WSDA and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Consumers are urged to dispose of the products or return to the stores where it was purchased.

DaBecca Sliced Uncured Apple Smoked Bacon Recalled

DaBecca Natural Foods is recalling approximately 3,450 pounds of bacon products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The bacon products were produced on November 13, 2014. The following products are subject to recall: [View Label]   
  • 15-lb. bulk case of DaBecca Sliced Uncured Apple Smoked Bacon (12 – 14 slices per lb.) with case code 114670 30814
The products subject to recall, though produced under inspection, were packaged and shipped with labels that did not bear the USDA mark of inspection. These products were shipped to institutional distributors in California and Texas.
The problem was discovered during a routine label review conducted by FSIS inspectors at a distribution facility.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.  Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Smoked Sliced Bacon Recalled Due to Misbranding,

Abe’s Finest Meats, a Palatka, Fla. establishment, is recalling approximately 80,050 pounds of hickory smoked sliced bacon products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The following items, produced on various dates between July 23 and December 11, 2014, are subject to recall 10-lb. bulk frozen packages of “CEDAR CREEK HICKORY SMOKED SLICED BACON.”Label, Recalled Product
These products bear establishment number “EST. 18747” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to distributors in Florida and Georgia.
The problem was discovered by FSIS inspection personnel during a label review. The product ingredient sodium nitrite is not declared on the product label.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Various meat and Poultry roducts Recalled Due To Unsanitary Conditions

  Yauk’s Specialty Meats, a Windsor, Colo., establishment, is recalling approximately 90,000 pounds of various meat and poultry products that were produced under insanitary conditions, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The following products are subject to recall:
  • “Colorado Best Beef” brand various fresh, smoked and shelf-stable meat products.
  • “James Ranch” brand jerky and summer sausage.
  • “Rocky Plains Meats” brand hams, bacon, raw and smoked sausage, jerky and raw poultry.
  • “John Long Farms” brand fresh and smoked pork products.
  • “Horned Beef” brand jerky.
  • “Mile High Hungarian Sausage” brand fresh and smoked bacon and sausage.
All products being recalled are packaged in retail-ready packaging of various sizes. Each package bears the establishment number “Est. 20309” or “P-20309” inside the USDA Mark of Inspection. The products were produced between April 1, 2013, and Dec. 5, 2013 and can be identified by four-digit Julian dates ranging between 3091 and 3339. The products were sold at the wholesale and retail level in Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
FSIS began a food safety assessment at the plant on Dec. 5, 2013, and discovered that product was being produced under insanitary conditions, including rodent activity in the production, storage and retail areas of the property. FSIS has suspended the assignment of inspectors at the establishment, and the investigation is ongoing.  FSIS and the establishment have received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Taylor Farms Recalls 2 Broccoli Salad Kits Due to Listeria

 Taylor Farms, a Jessup, Md. establishment, is recalling approximately 5,084 pounds of broccoli salad kit products.  The kits contain salad dressing in packets that are the subject of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall due to concerns about possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The salad kits were shipped to distributors and retail locations (delis) for consumer purchase in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Vermont. The following products are subject to recall:
  • 6.06-lb. boxes labeled “TAYLOR FARMS BROCCOLI CRUNCH WITH BACON AND DRESSING ” with the case code 310151, produced on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22, 2013.
  • 12.13-lb. boxes labeled “TAYLOR FARMS BROCCOLI CRUNCH WITH BACON AND DRESSING ” with the case code 310153, produced Oct. 21 through Oct. 23, 2013.
Case labels bear the establishment number “EST. 34522” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Retail consumers and the general public will not typically see the boxes and labels, because the product is typically unboxed by retailers (such as deli counters and restaurants) and the kit used to make salads for retail sale.  The boxes and labels would be more likely to be seen by distributors and retailers.
Taylor Farms informed FSIS that salad dressing subject to an FDA recall was contained in the salad kits produced on the dates listed above.  FSIS, FDA and the company have received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products.  Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.
Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
