Champ's Sliced Crimini Mushrooms recalled due to Listeria contamination

United Salad Co., the distributor of Portland, Oregon, is initiating a voluntary recall of Champ's Sliced Crimini Mushrooms, product of Canada, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled mushrooms were distributed to retailers and supermarkets from 06/13/15 to 06/14/15 in Oregon and Washington. Each individual container does not have code date; however product average shelf life is 10 days.

The affected Sliced Crimini Mushrooms were recalled by our supplier Champ's Mushrooms in Canada.

Retail stores are requested to remove any affected products off the store shelves. Consumers who have the recalled product in their possession should not consume it and should destroy or discard it.

Canada: Updated sliced Mortadella recall

The food recall warning issued February 25, 2015 has been updated to include additional product information. This additional information was identified during the ongoing food borne illness outbreak investigation in Ontario.

Lady York Foods is recalling sliced Mortadella products from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below.

If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The following products were sold from Lady York Foods, 2939 Dufferin St., North York, Ontario.

This recall applies to all Mortadella products sliced and sold from the deli counter at Lady York Foods from December 2, 2014 to February 24, 2015. Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased an affected product are advised to contact the retailer.

DaBecca Sliced Uncured Apple Smoked Bacon Recalled

DaBecca Natural Foods is recalling approximately 3,450 pounds of bacon products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The bacon products were produced on November 13, 2014. The following products are subject to recall: [View Label]   

• 15-lb. bulk case of DaBecca Sliced Uncured Apple Smoked Bacon (12 – 14 slices per lb.) with case code 114670 30814

The products subject to recall, though produced under inspection, were packaged and shipped with labels that did not bear the USDA mark of inspection. These products were shipped to institutional distributors in California and Texas.

The problem was discovered during a routine label review conducted by FSIS inspectors at a distribution facility.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.  Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.  

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Smoked Sliced Bacon Recalled Due to Misbranding,

Abe’s Finest Meats, a Palatka, Fla. establishment, is recalling approximately 80,050 pounds of hickory smoked sliced bacon products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following items, produced on various dates between July 23 and December 11, 2014, are subject to recall 10-lb. bulk frozen packages of “CEDAR CREEK HICKORY SMOKED SLICED BACON.”

These products bear establishment number “EST. 18747” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to distributors in Florida and Georgia.

The problem was discovered by FSIS inspection personnel during a label review. The product ingredient sodium nitrite is not declared on the product label.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Out of an abundance of caution, Publix Super Markets is issuing a voluntary recall for Publix Baby Bella Sliced Mushrooms that may contain pieces of glass. The Publix Baby Bella Sliced Mushrooms were distributed to all Publix retail locations in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina. The product is sold in the produce department in an 8oz package:

Publix was made aware of this product hazard after receiving one customer complaint. No injuries have been reported.

"As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves," said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director. "To date, there have been no reported cases of injury. Consumers who have purchased the product in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund. Spiral Sliced Ham Recalled Due to Listeria

Gusto Packing, a Montgomery, Ill. establishment, is recalling approximately 67,113 pounds of sliced, spiral ham products due to concerns about possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The hams were shipped to wholesalers for further distribution in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, while some were exported to Canada.

The following products are subject to recall:

• 45.5-lb. cases, with six individual sized hams each labeled “Centrella Signature, Hardwood Hickory Smoked, Spiral Sliced Ham with Natural Juices” with the case code “71292603304,” packaged on Nov. 29, 2013, having a Use or Freeze by date of “02/06/14.”

• 45.8-lb. cases, with six individual sized hams each labeled “AMISH VALLEY, Fully Cooked, Hickory Smoked Spiral Sliced Ham” with the case code “71292645104,” packaged on Nov. 29, 2013, having a Use or Freeze by date of “02/06/14.”
• 45.8-lb. cases, with six individual sized hams each labeled “AMISH VALLEY, Fully Cooked, Hickory Smoked Spiral Sliced Ham” with the case code “71292645104,” packaged on Nov. 30, 2013, having a Use or Freeze by date of “02/06/14.”
• 31.6-lb. cases, with four individual sized hams each labeled “Ripple Creek Farms, Fully Cooked, Ready To Eat, Hickory Smoked, Spiral Sliced Ham” with the case code “71292603312,” packaged on Nov. 30, 2013, having a Best Before date of “2014 FE 13.”

The problem was discovered when Gusto Packing’s internal sampling program found some of its products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Those products were frozen and held for reconditioning. Later, Gusto Packing found that some of those ham products inadvertently shipped into commerce. The company then informed FSIS.

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections can occur in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.

Scotland: Vaccume Packed Sliced Meats Recalled

Village Park Meats Ltd recalls batches of its vacuum packed, cooked, sliced meats due to inadequate controlling factors to prevent growth of Clostridium botulinum

During an inspection it was established that an extended shelf-life was being applied to all vacuum packed cooked meats, despite the fact that production records indicated a 10-day shelf-life was being applied. Due to inadequate controlling factors to prevent growth and toxin production of Clostridium botulinum, a recall is being carried out as a precautionary measure. Village Park Meats Ltd has recalled all affected batches detailed below.
