Pickles ,chili sauce and BBQ sauces recaled

Homemade of Leavenworth, Washington is recalling pickle and sauce products because they may have been improperly produced. Washington State Department of Agriculture routine sampling discovered that a bottle of Homemade Bread and Butter Pickles had a pH level high enough to allow the growth of Clostridium botulinum. Required records were not available to support that safe processing guidelines were followed on all sauce and pickle products produced at Homemade.

Food borne botulism is a severe type of food poisoning caused by the ingestion of foods containing the potent neurotoxin formed during growth of the organism. Food borne botulism can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension and constipation may also be common symptoms. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

Recalled products are packaged in clear glass bottles with metal caps. There are no lot codes or expiration dates on recalled products. The following products have been recalled:

• Bread and Butter Pickles (16 oz./454 g)
• Icicle Pickles (16 oz./454 g)
• Pickled Beets (16 oz./454 g)
• Chili Sauce (12 oz./340 g)
• Lite BBQ Sauce (12 oz./ 340 g)
• Medium BBQ Sauce (12 oz./340 g)
• Hot BBQ Sauce (12 oz./340 g)
• Horseradish BBQ Sauce (12 oz./340 g)

The recalled products were sold from small retailers and fruit stands in Chelan and Douglas counties in Washington State.

Homemade has made the decision to recall all pickle and sauce products to ensure the safety of their customers. To date the company has not been notified of illness associated with their products. Robert Eadie, owner of Homemade, believes that “the health of customers is a priority for my company, which is why I am working with the Washington State Department of Agriculture and a recognized process authority to take steps necessary to ensure the safety of my products.”

Canada: Amira brand Tahiti Sauce Recalled Due to Salmonella

Amira Enterprises Inc. is recalling Amira brand Tahini Sauce from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Pumpkin Seed Pesto Sauce Recalled Due to Clostridium Botulinum

California Department of Public Health (CDPH) warned consumers today not to eat Williams-Sonoma Pumpkin Seed Pesto sauce because it may have been improperly produced, making it susceptible to contamination with Clostridium botulinum.

Ingestion of botulism toxin from improperly processed jarred and canned foods may lead to serious illness and death.

The manufacturer of the product, California Olive and Vine, LLC, of Sutter, California, initiated the voluntary recall after CDPH determined that the product had been improperly processed. The product was packaged in eight ounce glass jars with screw-on metal lids. The recalled product can be identified by the following stock keeping unit (SKU) numbers: 6404305 and 6389043. The Williams-Sonoma Pumpkin Seed Pesto has been sold nationwide at Williams-Sonoma retail stores since September 2014.    

Botulinum toxin is odorless and colorless. Consumers that have any of these products or any foods made with these products should discard them immediately. Double bag the jars in plastic bags and place in a trash receptacle for non-recyclable trash. Wear gloves when handling these products or wash your hands with soap and running water after handling any food or containers that may be contaminated.

Botulism is a rare but serious paralytic illness caused by a nerve toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The initial symptoms frequently experienced are double or blurred vision, drooping eyelids, and dry or sore throat. Progressive descending paralysis, usually symmetrical, may follow. Infants with botulism appear lethargic, feed poorly, are constipated, have a weak cry, and poor muscle tone.

CDPH recommends consumers experiencing any ill effects after consuming these products should consult their healthcare provider. Consumers that observe the product being offered for sale are encouraged to report the activity to the CDPH toll free complaint line at (800) 495-3232.

Richard’s Rubs & Seasonings Recalls Sauces Because of Possible Health Risk

 Richard’s Rubs & Seasonings LLC is recalling Richard’s Too Good BBQ Sauce, Richard’s Too Good Hot Sauce and Richard’s Too Good Teriyaki Sauce because they have been improperly processed and because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism, a serious and potentially fatal foodborne illness.

The products being recalled were distributed up to the date of June 17, 2014. This recall has been initiated because of a consumer complaint indicating that sauce may have been improperly processed. Richard’s Rubs & Seasonings LLC has not been notified of any illness associated with their products.

New Zealand: Wattie’s Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce Recalled

Wattie’s Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce Batch Code: FJH0814 The product batch code is identified by a series of characters on the base of the can.

This product is sold in food retail outlets throughout New Zealand.

Wattie’s is initiating a recall of the above batch of its 300g Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce. The product has a possible packaging defect which may cause failure of the inside tin layer and affect the food.

Consumers are advised to check the batch information located on the base of the can. Affected product has the batch information listed above and should not be consumed. Consumers who have a can from this batch should return the product to their retailer for a full refund or phone 0800 928 843 with any queries. This recall does not affect any other Wattie’s Canned Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce products.

Canada: Rice Noodles & Sauce Due to Improper Processing

La Cie McCormick Canada is voluntarily recalling Thai Kitchen brand Thai Peanut Microwave Rice Noodles & Sauce as the product may contain a packaging defect or may have been processed in a manner that allows the presence of spoilage microorganisms. They were packed in 168 g size and had a code of BB/MA 2015SE04 VL03  the UPC number was 7376281 17512

Check to see if you have the product in your home. If the product is in your home do not consume it.

Spoiled packages may not necessarily be dangerous and may or may not be identifiable. However, if spoiled food is inadvertently consumed, it is advisable to watch for symptoms that may include upset stomach, vomiting and diarrhea.

Campbell Soup Recalled Prego Traditional Italian Sause

Campbell Soup Company is voluntarily recalling approximately 300 cases of 24-ounce jars of Prego Traditional Italian sauce because of a risk of spoilage.

The affected product was manufactured on December 15, 2013 and can be identified by the “Best By” date of June 16, 2015 and a four-digit, military time code ranging from “CT BJ ZV 0330” through “CT BJ ZV 0449.” This information is printed on the top of the lid as follows:

The product subject to the recall was made at the Campbell Soup Supply Company establishment in Paris, Texas and was shipped on December 21, 2013 to retailer distribution centers that serve the following seven states: Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico and Oklahoma. This recall is limited to the U.S.

The potential spoilage was discovered as a result of the company’s routine quality control testing. This recall does not affect any other Campbell products. No consumer illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

Consumers who have purchased the product should not eat it. Consumers should return the product to the store where the product was purchased for a full refund.
