Is There Pus In Milk?

People Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) started a ad campaign with the slogan “Got Pus”.This was a play on the milk industries “Got Milk” advertisement. But PETA was counting as pus was White Blood cells. It is similar to calling beef scraps treated with ammonia “Pink Slime”. Nobody wants to eat slime or pus.

The milk industry threatened to bring a lawsuit against PETA but failed to follow through. They might have thought that the publicity of a trial would have more damaging than just letting PETA go on with the ads.

Even Though there is no Pus the milk we drink would be illegal in 17 countries in Europe because of the high number of white blood cells. All Milk, even human milk, contain some white blood cells. These white blood cells look around for pathogens to attack. But in the U.S. the number allowed would indicate that the udders of the cow were infected.

If Pasteurization kills all pathogens this would not be a problem. Pasteurization only kills some of the bacteria leaving your immune system to kill the rest.

With all the health problems caused by milk it is amazing that PETA had to sink to this.

I would like to apologize for saying that that milk contained pus in my blog post “"Why is Milk Dangerous?"
