Belmont Meats Ltd. are warning the public not to consume the beef burgers described below because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
This recall is the result of an ongoing food safety investigation initiated as a result of a recent outbreak investigation. There may be recalls of additional products or best before dates as the food safety investigation at this facility continues.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.Canada
The manufacturer, Belmont Meats Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling all affected products from the marketplace.
The following products, sold frozen, are affected by this alert.
Sunspun Bear paw shaped Beef Burgers -4.54 kg- Best before date, 02/24/ 2014-B##BMPES- UPC 0 60382 09052 3. In Ontario they were sold at Loblaws,nofrills, Real Canadian Superstores, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs Markets, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Extra Foods, Fortinos, Freshmart, AXEP and Cash & Carry. On the Atlantic coast,Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Cash & Carry, Freshmart, Red & White and Save Easy. In Quebec, Loblaws, Maxi, Presto? Club Entrepot and Provigo. In The west Real Canadian Superstore, Real Canadian Wholesale Club Extra Foods nofrills, Shop East, SuperValu and Westfair Independents.

This is the fourth burger recall this month. If I lived in Canada I think I would stop eating hamburgers.

Food contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria my cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea. Some people may have seizures or strokes and some may need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. Others may live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
