Alfalfa Sprouts Recalled in Canada

Sunsprout Natural Foods in Branford, Ontario are recalling alfalfa sprouts for possible Salmonella contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.The two brand names affected are Sunsprouts and Sprouts Alive. The affected Alfalfa sprouts were packed in a 140 gram container with a best-before date of June 13. The Uniform Product Code (UPC) for the Sunsprout product is: 0 57621 13501 7, and the UPC for the Sprouts Alive product is 0 69022 00030 6.
There is no illness from the sprouts as of yet. Salmonella-contaminated foods may not look or smell spoiled,according to the  CFIA. Do not eat any of the recalled sprouts, consuming them may cause high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The risk of serious and sometimes deadly infections is greater for young children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems. On an FDA website it was recomended that people under 6 or over 65 do not eat raw sprouts.
