China Considering Revising Food Safety Laws

According to CHINA DAILY EUROPE  China is considering revising its food safety laws. According to an anonymous official from China Food and Drug he was gathering opinions from food safety experts to revise the Food Safety Law.
They are considering harsher punishments for for food safety violations. They wanted to cover online sales which are unregulated at this time.
China has been hit by food safety scandals in recent years. In 2008 Melamine was added to milk to make it seem high in protein. As 300,000 babies got sick and eight children died there was public outrage.
Another scandal was the recycling of edible oils (called gutter oil) by restaurants and drug manufacturers. Due to protection by local governments many food safety violators get of with very little punishment. It is long overdue that China resolves its food safety problems.
