Can Swimming in a Swimming Pool Kill MRSA ?

The Chlorine in a swimming pool can kill all types of bacteria including MRSA, but it will not kill all of the bacteria. The main purpose of the chlorine is to kill any bacteria in the water so it will not infect another swimmer. If there was enough chlorine in the water to kill all the bacteria on a swimmer it would be harmful to the swimmers.

It is important to make sure a pool is well maintained. At the pool I used the person who was in charge   over the weekend didn't push the right button so the chlorine didn't go into the pool. When I got there Sunday the water was murky. After the manager came he closed the pool for two weeks until the water quality improved.

When you shower before going in a pool you rinse off the majority of bacteria. Even with the bacteria killed off by the chlorine the bacteria will grow back quickly. Most bacteria reproduce in 15 to 20 minutes. So if you think you have MRSA better go to the doctor rather than the pool.
