New Study: Raw Milk Safe

A study Published in the Journal of Food Protection have demonstrated that unpasteurized milk is a low-risk food, contrary to previous, inappropriately-evidenced claims suggesting a high-risk profile. This was a total surprise to me. I have expressed the opposite several times in this blog.

This peer reviewed Study compared the incidence of bacterial disease caused by raw milk with the incidence of bacterial disease caused by other products. It stated that you are more likely to get a disease from leaf vegetables than raw milk. In Scientific Literature they have suggested that getting listeria  contamination was a great threat with raw milk. In last forty years listeria has been non existent in raw milk.
They tested for Campylobacter, E. coli, Listeria and Staphylococcus aureus.  This low risk profile applied to healthy adults as well as members of immunological-susceptible groups:  pregnant women, children and the elderly.

Even though milk is safer than many vegetables It is not safer than pasteurized milk.  The few people who get sick sick from pasteurized milk tend to have less severe illnesses. I personally would rather have less disease from both milk and green leafy vegetables.

The Question remains should anyone be drinking milk after the age of two? Our ability to digest milk reduces from the age of two. There are many reasons not to drink milk not the least of which is Monsanto contribution For more information why milk causes health problems.
