Nepal: Milk Contains Chloroform

According to the Himalayan News service  the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control found milk produced by 14 dairies were contaminated with coliform last month,
The Government has made a commitment to maintain safety in milk and will intensify their efforts. Daries not maining milk standards will be punished.

They are going also going to intensify inspections on bottled water and meat. Hygiene conditions of meat shops have been in question. Every year, the government promises to build a slaughterhouse in towns but not one has been built till date Therefore, butchers have been slaughtering animals in dirty open spaces and selling meat at roadsides.

Companies that manufacture bottled water have not maintained safety norms. Bottled water lacks scientific purification methods and minerals. However, bottled water is being sold as mineral water. The department had found coliform in about 30 % of bottled water.
