Florida Cherry Tomatoes Contaminated

Alderman Farms Sales Corporation of Boynton Beach, FL  is recalling their cherry tomatoes because USDA found Salmonella in a sample they tested. The cherry tomatoes were sold in square on-pint clear plastic containers marked with the label “Alderman Farms Organic Cherry Tomato.” They carry UPC number 6317195594

Alderman Farms did their due diligence by conducted its own Salmonella test on a sample from the same lot before they sold them.. They found no salmonella. They are now investigating how the cherry tomatoes got contaminated.

Salmonella is the most common foodborne ailment reported. In the United States We have over 200 deaths each year from salmonella. In Africa the death toll is much higher due to two drug resistant strains. In the United States most deaths are among the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.

There is presently work being done to create a vaccine. If the drug resistant varieties spread to the rest of the world we will have major problems.
