China Arrests 8200 for Food Safety Crimes

The Ministry of Public Security is launching a food safety crackdown. It is Food Safety week in China. The ministry closed down 6300 workshops and markets that produced or sold illegal food products. Fake cooking oil, meat, spices and seasonings, health care products, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and illegal additives were seized.
China has seen multiple food safety scandals in recent years. Recent scandals involving adulterated mutton, lime-preserved eggs processed with copper sulfate and ginger grown with highly toxic pesticide have aggravated public concerns over food safety.

China seems to realize it can’t continue to have all these food safety problems. I was just talking to a relative from China. Her advice “Don’t buy anything from China.”
